Silent Voices in Parliament

2018 – Silent Voices in Peckham

In collaboration with The Youth Violence Commission

In July 2018 several of the young people involved in Silent Voices took on the challenge performing The play on one of the biggest stages yet – Parliament. They were invited in collaboration with the Youth Violence Commission and their interim report launch which focused on rising violence involving young people and potential solutions. I am people not only able to perform, but speak to MPs and other influences about their own experiences and solutions that they felt would be viable in this day and age.

The play was performed to friends, family and MPs at the Jubilee room in the great Hall.

This Production, based on the powerful Silent Voices book by Jonathon Toy (Ex head of Community Safety, Safer Southwark Partnership) documents stories form 10 years work with gangs and prevention. The perspectives put forward by the young people, provide the audience the opportunity to recognize and resolve the real reasons driving the tragic violence we see in our cities.
